Why Expats Need Travel Insurance When Going Back Home

As an expat if you think you are covered by the governments medical service whenever travel back home - then think again!

Most expatriates assume that they are entitled to government medical services when they return back home for a break and consequently don’t need travel medical insurance. Unfortunately that is not the case, at least not for the British expats. The UK NHS does not provide medical treatment to non-residents. The way it works is, if you are not paying taxes in the UK you are not entitled to the NHS medical. See the NHS website for more information. This policy is not limited to just the UK, so ensure you check with the concerned authorities in your country of origin and your new country of residence before travelling. Finding the right travel insurance for expats can be a challenge because most travel insurances have regional sales restrictions and the known insurance companies may not be available in other countries. Having said that, HolidayGuard may be purchased by anyone, except residents of US & Canada. Bookmark and Share
